MFA (multi-factor authentication) is an authentication method in which a user is granted platform access only after successfully presenting two or more pieces of evidence (factors) to an authentication mechanism. If enabled, you are able to choose between two MFA methods.
Enable MFA
To turn on MFA, navigate to your profile. To do this, click on the menu button in the upper right corner of the screen, then select 'Profile' from the navigation list that shows up.
Once on your profile, click into the security tab. Find the 'Multifactor Authentication' section, and click the pencil icon.
From here, you can choose between using an Authenticator App to receive a one time password or receiving a text message with a code.
To configure a One Time Password: *Preferred* This method of MFA requires that you download a third party authentication app to your mobile device. (such as Authy or Google Authenticator)
You will be presented with a QR code to scan with your authentication application. It will then give you a 6 digit code to type in. After you type this, press 'Verify'.
To configure SMS (Short Message Service aka Text Message): This method of MFA requires that you have a mobile phone number associated with your profile. Check the box to accept the Privacy Policy and then the box to turn on two-factor authentication.
You will be sent a verification code via SMS to that mobile phone number. The verification code must be entered during the login process to be able to access your account.
Disable MFA
To disable MFA, click on the pencil icon on the Multifactor Authentication section of your profile.
From here, you will see a screen showing the two MFA options. Click the 'Configure' button on the method you currently have enabled.
Next, click 'Deactivate'. The platform will ask you to enter a code via your MFA method one final time in order to disable the MFA from then on.
